NEW! Preview of the LA Opera 2017/18 Season

General Director Plácido Domingo has announced six mainstage productions to be presented at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion, as well as two concerts, one of them in celebration of the 50th anniversary of Mr. Domingo’s first performance in Los Angeles.

Music Director James Conlon conducts Carmen with Ana Maria Martinez as Carmen. Domingo and Grant Gershon will each conduct performances of The Pearl Fishers with Nino Machaidze as Leila and Javier Camarena as Nadir; and Conlon conducts Nabucco with Domingo singing the title role.

In celebration of Leonard Bernstein’s 100th birthday, James Conlon conducts Candide in a production by Francesca Zambello with Jack Swanson as Candide and Erin Morley as Cunegonde. And in a highly anticipated collaboration, John Neumeier directs, choreographs and designs a new production of Gluck’s Orpheus and Eurydice, danced by the Joffrey Ballet and featuring Maxim Mironov and Lisette Oropesa.

The mainstage season ends with Artist in Residence, Matthew Aucoin, conducting Rigoletto, to be sung first by Leo Nucci in the title role, and followed by Ambrogio Maestri.

The two concerts at the Dorothy Chandler include ‘Plácido Domingo’s 50th Anniversary Concert’ and ‘Audra McDonald in Concert’. In their Off Grand Presentations performed at various venues around Los Angeles, LAO presents La Belle et la Bête, with music by Philip Glass to the film by Jean Cocteau; and Persona, in collaboration with Beth Morrison Projects, based on Ingmar Bergman’s film. Matthew Aucoin’s Crossing starring Rod Gilfry and a Gordon Getty double bill of The Canterville Ghost and Usher House complete the season.
