Psappha, Manchester’s professional contemporary classical music ensemble, launches its 2017-18 season on 26 Octobe at Hallé St Peter’s, Ancoats, with two UK premières; Sarah Kirkland Snider’s Penelope and Molly Joyce’s Rave. In a further six concerts – in venues across Manchester – Psappha explores the diverse range of music now produced by contemporary composers, in a programme where the avant-garde meets music influenced by jazz, rock, pop, and folk. And, they launch a new series of pre-concert events – Psappha: Demystifying New Music – in which audiences can learn more about the music before it’s performed, through film portraits and composer talks.

After the opening concert, other season highlights include a collaboration with the BBC Philharmonic showcasing talented North West composers. That’s part of the New Music North West Festival (14 November). There’s also a concert entitled Wonderland, devoted to music inspired by fantasy, surrealism and Led Zeppelin (17 November 2017), and a concert including Le Marteau sans maître by Pierre  Boulez (22 March 2018)
