Visiting orchestras tour Switzerland 2015/16

 

Courtesy of Swiss retail giant Migros various foreign orchestras will be touring Switzerland in the coming season.

 

The Mariinsky Orchestra under Valery Gergiev will be in Geneva in September 2015 with Prokofiev and Tchaikovsky’s 6th symphony.

 

Also in September the Macao Orchestra will be in Zurich with works by Mao Yuan/Liu Tieshan, Saint-Saëns and Bruckner (his 6th symphony).

 

The Philharmonia under Esa-Pekka Salonen come with Beethoven’s “Eroica” and Sibelius 5th symphony: performances in late October 2015 in Zurich, Berne, Geneva and Lucerne.

 

The Chamber Orchestra of the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra play works by Bach, Mozart and Haydn with Hélène Grimaud at the piano: performances in late November 2015 in Berne, Zurich, Geneva and St. Gallen.

 

The Orchestre des Champs-Elysées under Philippe Herreweghe are in Geneva in December 2015 with Isabelle Faust (violin) and works by Beethoven, including the “Eroica” symphony.

 

The Symphony Orchestra of India plays works by Smetana, Hussain and Bartok (his Concerto for Orchestra) in Zurich, Geneva and St. Gallen in late January 2016.

 

Camerata Salzburg are in Berne and Geneva in February 2016 with the Labèque sisters and works by Haydn, Mozart and Mendelssohn.

 

Mikhail Pletnev brings his Russian National Orchestra to Switzerland (Zurich, Berne, St. Gallen) in mid-March 2016; they perform works by Tchaikovsky, Saint-Saëns and Glazunov (“The Seasons”); soloists are Renaud Capucon and Lionel Cottet.

 

The Rotterdam Philharmonic come to Zurich, Geneva, St. Gallen and Lugano in late April 2016  with Yannick Nézet-Séguin and Sol Gabetta (cello) to play works by Tchaikovsky, Shostakovich and Prokofiev (his 7th Symphony).

 

The Orchestre de Paris under Paavo Järvi with Khatia Buniatishvili (piano) comes to Geneva, Zurich, Berne and Lucerne with works by Dubugnon, Schumann and Shostakovich (his 6th Symphony).
