London Brass and O Duo at Wigmore Hall – The 2016 Annual Jacqueline du Pré Charity Concert on Wednesday 9 March 2016 at 7.30pm

Leading Brass and Percussion ensembles visit Wigmore Hall in a varied programme of original works and special arrangements

RSMTwo exceptional classical ensembles share the platform at Wigmore Hall next month for the 21st Annual Jacqueline du Pré Charity Concert. London Brass, formed of four trumpets, one French horn, one tuba and four trombones and celebrating its 30th anniversary this year, brings a set including original works for brass and outstanding arrangements prepared for this group. Notably, Roger Harvey’s arrangement of Lutoslawski’s Variations on a Theme by Paganini was specifically authorized by the Polish composer for performance by London Brass. There are also arrangements by London Brass’s versatile and expert horn player, Richard Bissill, with music from the baroque and romantic eras.

The percussion double act O Duo, consisting of Oliver Cox and Owen Gunnell, displays the versatility for which the pair has become renowned in original works of their own as well as music by Philip Glass and Minoru Miki. O Duo’s set showcases styles from contemporary to baroque, with a dramatic visual element as in each piece the two performers may play up to 5 or 6 instruments each. Creating wide dynamic ranges and sounds within an expressive musical context, theirs are typically intense acoustic events.

The performance is the 2016 Annual Jacqueline du Pré Charity Concert, which raises money each year to support the work of the Royal Society of Musicians.
