Zurich Opera Announces its 2017/2018 Season

The season opens with Tchaikovsky’s Eugene Onegin in a Barrie Kosky/Stanislav Kochanovsky – co-production with the Komische Oper Berlin with Olga Bezsmertna as Tatjana and Peter Mattei as Onegin.

In Kurt Weill und Bertolt Brecht’s Rise and Fall of the City of Mahagonny (Sebastian Baumgarten; Fabio Luisi) Karita Mattila sings Leokadja Begbick and Annette Dasch as Jenny Hill.

Andreas Homoki’s first new production of next season will be a world première of Lunea by Heinz Holliger. The composer conducts, Christian Gerhaher sings the title role.

Fabio Luisi and Andreas Homoki bring a new production of Verdi’s La forza del destino. Cast includes Hibla Gerzmava, George Petean, Yonghoon Lee and Christof Fischesser.

Other new productions include Madama Butterfly (Ted Huffman / Daniele Rustioni) with Svetlana Aksenova and Saimir Pirgu; Idomeneo (Jetske Mijnssen / Giovanni Antonini) with Joseph Kaiser, Anna Stephany and Guanqun Yu; Maria Stuarda (David Alden; Enrique Mazzola) with Salome Jicia and Diana Damrau; L’Incoronazione di Poppea (Calixto Bieito / Ottavio Dantone) with Valer Sabadus, Stephanie D’Oustrac, Julie Fuchs and Nahuel Di Pierro. There will be a concert version of La fille du régiment with Sabine Devieilhe, Birgit Steinegger and Javier Camarena.

Revivals include: Cecilia Bartoli (Le comte Ory); Anja Harteros (Tosca); Catherine Naglestad (Salome; La fanciulla del West); Maria Agresta (Luisa Miller); Martina Serafin (Turandot); Nina Stemme (Parsifal); Ailyn Perez (La traviata); Varduhi Abrahamyan (Carmen); Elza van den Heever (Fidelio); Elsa Dreisig (Die Zauberflöte); Elizabeth DeShong (Il barbiere di Siviglia); Bryn Terfel (Der fliegende Holländer); Lawrence Brownlee (Il barbiere di Siviglia; Le comte Ory); Piotr Beczala (Werther ; Das Land des Lächelns); Aleksandrs Antonenko (Turandot); Brian Jagde (Tosca); Brandon Jovanovich (Parsifal ; La fanciulla del West); Matthew Polenzani (Luisa Miller); Leo Nucci (Luisa Miller); Quinn Kelsey (La traviata); Benjamin Bernheim (La traviata); Klaus Florian Vogt (Fidelio).
