The great Christopher Wren-designed Church of St James’ Piccadilly will host a brand new annual series of chamber music concerts from 2018: The Piccadilly Chamber Music Series launches on January 26th 2018 at 7.30pm with a concert given by LSO violinist Rhys Watkins, international cellist Rowena Calvert and concert pianist Warren Mailley-Smith.

Set in the heart of London’s West End, the series provides a new platform for some of the UK’s most outstanding musicians and a new opportunity for Londoners to hear some of the world’s greatest chamber music masterpieces performed in an inspiring setting.

The inaugural series of five concerts in 2018 will feature Beethoven’s complete Piano Trios. Each programme includes at least 2 works by Ludwig van Beethoven, highlighting the extent of the composer’s wide-ranging influence.

A further aim of the series is to support and promote new music and each programme contains a work by a living composer. For this opening season, works by Cecilia McDowall, Helen Grime (current composer-in residence at the Wigmore Hall) , Kurtag, Nico Muhly and Arvo Pärt have been included. The series was conceived by concert pianist, Warren Mailley-Smith,, who recently became the first British pianist to perform the complete works of Chopin from memory, in his 2016 series at St John’s Smith Square, and is currently recording the complete cycle for Sleeveless Records.

The 2018 season also features the leader of the CBSO Zoe Beyers (violin), the current Head of Chamber Music at Guildhall School of Music Matthew Jones (violin), LPO violinist Ilyoung Chae (violin) and leading soloists and chamber musicians Ruth Palmer (violin), Pavlos Carvalho (cello), Tim Lowe (cello), Victoria Simonsen (cello) and Gabriella Swallow (cello).
