‘Love knows no bounds of age or status; it pierces with equal force the heart of a young woman and a world-weary soul.’
Tatyana falls hopelessly in love with Eugene Onegin, the enigmatic friend of Lensky, an aspiring poet besotted with her sister Olga. When Onegin coldly rejects Tatyana’s affections and Lensky’s relationship with Olga faces a devastating test, childhood bonds shatter with tragic consequences and the courses of four young lives are altered forever.
In HGO’s November 2024 production of Tchaikovsky’s Eugene Onegin, missed opportunities and haunting regrets collide, as the opera traces the transformative power of first love and the lasting impacts of our choices. It is fully staged, with orchestra, and sung in the original Russian with full English surtitles.
Freshly conceived and directed by Eleanor Burke (who directed our award-winning Cunning Little Vixen), the set and costume designs are by Emeline Beroud. The HGO Orchestra is directed by John Paul Jennings. As always our singers are tomorrow’s opera stars…
November 8, 9, 13, 14, 15, 16 at 7pm: November 10 and 17 at 4pm.
