Lucerne Festival: Advance concert details for the Spring and Summer Festivals 2019
Easter Festival: 6th to 14th April 2019
Harpsichordist and conductor Emmanuelle Haïm will be the Artist-in-residence and will conduct two concerts; the Petits Chanteurs à la Croix de Bois will open the Festival. Teodor Currentzis, leading the MusicAeterna Orchestra and Chorus of Perm Opera, will present Verdi’s Requiem (April 10th) and the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra return for a residency in programmes led by Iván Fischer (April 13th) and Bernard Haitink (Bruckner’s Sixth Symphony – April 14th), with Janine Jansen and Till Fellner as soloists.

Summer Festival: 16th August to 15th September 2019
Teodor Currentzis will preside over a Mozart-da Ponte Cycle, comprising Don Giovanni, Così fan tutte and Le nozze di Figaro. Riccardo Chailly and the Lucerne Festival Orchestra open the Festival with pianist Denis Matsuev in an all-Rachmaninoff programme, including his Third Symphony. Their second programme features Mahler’s Sixth Symphony. Tchaikovsky’s symphonies Nos. 4, 5 and 6 will be performed by the Lucerne Festival Orchestra (Chailly), the Berlin Philharmonic (Kirill Petrenko) and the Mariinsky Orchester (Gergiev) respectively. Gergiev will also conduct Shostakovich’s Tenth symphony. The Festival will launch Igor Levit’s Beethoven cycle of all 32 sonatas (over a period of two years) with two solo piano recitals.
Other visiting orchestras include the London Symphony Orchestra (Rattle), the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra (Barenboim), the Chamber Orchestra of Europe (Haitink), the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra (one concert under Haitink, the other Orozco-Estrada), Mahler Chamber Orchestra (Hrůša) and Andris Nelsons makes his first appearance at the Festival with the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra. Zubin Mehta conducts the Israel Philharmonic and the Orchestre National de France return under the direction of Emmanuel Krivine. Soloists include Frank Peter Zimmermann, Vilde Frang, Patricia Kopatchinskaja, Murray Perahia, Maurizio Pollini, Sir András Schiff, Yuja Wang and Evgeny Kissin.
