Garsington Opera has announced its 2021 season

GARSINGTON OPERA IN 2021

Der Rosenkavalier opens the season on 2 June and we welcome back Miah Persson, who triumphed in Strauss’s Capriccio in 2018, as the Marschallin, Hanna Hipp (Fantasio 2019) as Octavian and Soraya Mafi (Falstaff 2018) as Sophie. American bass-baritone makes his Garsington Opera debut as Baron Ochs and British mezzo-soprano Kitty Whately as Annina. Richard Burkhard (Fidelio 2020) is Faninal. Jordan de Souza also makes his debut conducting the Philharmonia Orchestra. Director Bruno Ravella (Falstaff 2018) is joined by designer Gary McCann and lighting designer Malcolm Rippeth for this new co-production with Irish National Opera.

Michael Boyd’s production of Eugene Onegin (2016) returns with designer Tom Piper, lighting designer Malcolm Rippeth, acrobatic choreographer Lina Johansson and movement director / choreographer Liz Ranken. We welcome two exciting debut artists to Garsington: Moldovan soprano Natalia Tanasii as Tatyana and Singaporean-British mezzo-soprano Fleur Barron as Olga. Jonathan McGovern (Don Giovanni 2019) makes his role debut as Eugene Onegin. Sam Furness (Capriccio 2018) plays Lensky and with Matthew Rose (Die Entführung aus dem Serail 2013) as Gremin, Douglas Boyd conducts the Philharmonia Orchestra.

Handel’s Amadigi is presented in a new production by director / designer Netia Jones (Die Zauberflöte 2018). Mezzo-soprano Sonja Runje makes her debut as Amadigi. We also welcome soprano Rhian Lois as Oriana, Anna Devin (Hansel und Gretel 2013) as Melissa and Tim Mead (L’Olimpiade 2012) as Dardano. Christian Curnyn (Die Zauberflöte 2018) conducts The English Concert.

Rossini’s Le comte Ory appears in a new production by debut director Cal McCrystal. The cast includes Jack Swanson (Il turco in Italia 2017) as Count Ory and Andrea Carroll (Pelléas et Mélisande 2017) as Adèle. Jacques Imbrailo makes his Garsington debut as Raimbaud, Katie Bray (Il turco in Italia 2017) plays Isolier, Patricia Bardon (La pietra del paragone 1998) is Ragonde and Joshua Bloom (The Bartered Bride 2019) is the Tutor. Valentina Peleggi makes her Garsington Opera debut conducting the Philharmonia Orchestra.
