Deutsche Oper’s new Ring on the platform beginning 13 May 2022

Marquee TV, the global platform for dance, theatre, opera and classical music on demand, presents Deutsche Opera Berlin’s newest interpretation of Wagner’s iconic Ring cycle, directed by Stefan Herheim and conducted by Sir Donald Runnicles. Filmed in its four parts – Das Rheingold, Die Walküre, Siegfried and Götterdämmerung – the tetralogy will be available for viewing beginning 13 May 2022 (click here).

Filmed in 2021, this new Ring Cycle features an outstanding cast of world-class performers. Alongside Nina Stemme, an iconic Wagner singer of the present day, the company includes Clay Hilley as Siegfried, Elisabeth Teige as Sieglinde, Brandon Jovanovich as Siegmund, Thomas Blondelle as Loge, Markus Brück (Das Rheingold) and Jordan Shanahan as Alberich, Derek Welton (Das Rheingold) and Iain Paterson as Wotan/Der Wanderer, Annika Schlicht as Fricka, Ya-Chung Huang as Mime and Albert Pesendorfer as Hagen.
Directed by Stefan Herheim and conducted by Sir Donald Runnicles, this ambitious new Ring cycle more than meets the challenge of translating Wagner’s tetralogy for the twenty-first century. Award-winning Norwegian Stefan Herheim is acclaimed as one of the most important directors of the moment, known for his emphasis on the historical contexts of ideas. Here, through his playful retelling of the myth, he uses the journeys of individual characters to reflect the values of society as a whole.
Since its inception, Marquee TV has worked in partnership with some of the world’s leading arts organizations, including the Royal Opera House and the Royal Shakespeare Company. It has continued its support of our most beloved institutions through these critical times, collaborations including ongoing digital partnerships with the London Philharmonic Orchestra and London Symphony Orchestra. Throughout the last 18 months, Marquee TV has also co-commissioned several new films in collaboration with prestigious arts organizations, including Scottish Ballet’s Starstruck, Crystal Pite and Jonathon Young’s critically acclaimed Revisor, and The Turn of the Screw by OperaGlass Works, filmed during lockdown in London’s iconic Wilton’s Music Hall.
