Lambeth Orchestra (LO) announced today a performance with the renowned British soprano Nadine Benjamin for the orchestra’s 50th Anniversary Gala Concert on 18th January 2023 at Queen Elizabeth Hall. The charismatic and versatile Nadine Benjamin will perform Strauss’s Four Last Songs.
Nadine Benjamin is a world-class British lyric soprano who is in increasing demand on both the operatic stage and the concert platform. Nadine made her debut at the BBC Proms in 2019, her Royal Opera House debut in 2020, and her Glyndebourne Festival Opera debut in August 2021. From 2018 to 2020, Nadine was an ENO Harewood Artist and made her debut with the Company as Clara (Porgy and Bess), followed by Musetta (La bohème), Laura (Luisa Miller) and Gerhilde (The Valkyrie) for ENO and will sing the role of The Mother in the UK premiere of Blue in April 2023. Nadine recently made her debut with the LPO under Edward Gardner and has performed with Chineke! Orchestra.
Nadine Benjamin said: ‘I am delighted to be making my debut with Lambeth Orchestra. I remember early in my career writing to the orchestra to ask if they could hear or collaborate with me – so it is wonderful many years later to be met in this capacity! The Four Last Songs are very dear to me – for me, they are like different phases of life that one meets along the way. The poetry really depicts the expanding and contracting of our Universal life force and shows how we as humans are deeply connected to nature.‘
Nina Swann, Chair of the Lambeth Orchestra, added ‘We’re so thrilled to be working with Nadine for this concert, as well as three of the four conductors from the Orchestra’s last 50 years. It’s a privilege to perform in Lambeth, with a Lambeth-born talent such as Nadine, celebrating this wonderful community resource.‘
The Lambeth Orchestra’s ambitious celebratory programme includes: Humperdinck’s Overture, Hansel and Gretel, conducted by Dr Christopher Fifield (former LO Principal Conductor), Strauss’s Four Last Songs, conducted by Michael Cobb (Principal Guest Conductor) and Mahler’s Symphony No.1 (vers. original in 5 movements including Blumine), conducted by Peter Selwyn (current LO Principal Conductor)
