Celebration of Ukrainian Music launches with cello recital at London’s eclectic Fidelio Cafè on 3rd June 2025

An impressive project launched by Ukraine’s R.Glier Kyiv Municipal Academy of Music is coming to London. Marking the 150th anniversary of the birth of celebrated Ukrainian classical composer, Reinhold Glière, Glieriv Fest is an opportunity for the Ukrainian people, at home and abroad, to share their cultural heritage with the world.
Perhaps best known as the teacher of Sergei Prokofiev (also born in Kyiv), Reinhold Glière was himself the composer of a vast range of charming and inventive instrumental music, perfectly exemplified in his set Album Leaves for cello and piano, which combines influences of folk and religious music with a passionate romantic vein.
The 3rd June concert at Fidelio Cafè in Farringdon presents performers British cellist Sarah Gait and German-Iranian pianist Parvis Hejazi. The pair, award-winners of the BBC, Royal Philharmonic Society, German Federal Jugend Musiziert Competition and Mozarteum Salzburg, to name just a few, will perform works from both Glière and Prokofiev. Following the music recital, à la carte dining is available.
This concert is part of a series launched by Sarah in close collaboration with the Glier Academy in Kyiv and Reinhold Glière’s living family, as part of Glieriv Fest. Glieriv Fest is a testament to the astonishing resilience of the musicians and creatives of Ukraine, and we warmly encourage Londoners to join in celebrating this intiative of the R.Glier Kyiv Municipal Academy of Music.
