Switzerland Visiting Orchestras in Switzerland next season (2013/2014)
Migros Kulturprozent have announced the following details of next season’s orchestral tours in Switzerland:
The Beijing Symphony Orchestra conducted by Tan Lihau will perform contemporary Chinese music in the first half of their programme, then Mussorgsky’s “Pictures at an Exhibition”; Concert date: Berne 10th September 2013.
The Budapest Festival Orchestra under Ivan Fischer with soloists Maria Joao Pires (piano) and Marysol Schalit (soprano) perform Mozart, Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 2 and Brahms Piano Quartet op. 25 (Schoenberg version)(St. Gallen/Zurich)/Dvorak Symphony No. 8 (Geneva/Berne): Concert dates: St. Gallen 25th October 2013, Zurich 26th October 2013, Berne 27th October, Geneva 28th October 2013.
John Eliot Gardiner brings over the Orchestre Révolutionnaire et Romantique and the Monteverdi Choir to perform Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 (Lucerne only) and Beethoven Symphonies 2 and 8 (Zurich, Geneva and Berne). Swiss soprano Rachel Harnisch will start the concerts with some Mozart arias. Concert dates are: Berne 24th November 2013, Lucerne 25th November 2013, Zurich 26th November 2013 and Geneva 28th November 2013.
Camerata Bern give an extra concert in Geneva on 10th December 2013 playing a whole programme of Mendelssohn, his “Hebrides” Overture, his Double Concerto for violin, piano and orchestra, his piano concerto No. 1 and his 4th Symphony “Italian”.
The Kammerorchester Basel under Mario Venzago perform Martinu’s Oboe Concerto (with Swiss oboist Matthias Arter), Elgar’s Cello Concerto with soloist Sol Gabetta and Schubert’s 9th Symphony. Concert dates: Zurich 14th January 2014, St. Gallen 15th January 2014 and Geneva 16th January 2014.
The Polish Chamber Orchestra under Maxim Vengerov give just one concert, in Geneva. Vengerov, recovered from his hand injury, plays two Mozart violin concertos and works by Tchaikovsky. Geneva: 13th February 2014.
The Montreal Symphony Orchestra under Kent Nagano perform Wagner’s “Lohengrin” Prelude to Act III, a new composition by Swiss composer David Philip Hefti, Liszt’s Piano Concerto No. 2 (with Marc-André Hamelin) and Berlioz “Symphonie Fantastique”. Zurich11th March 2014, Berne 12th March 2014 and Geneva 13th March 2014.
The BBC Symphony Orchestra tour Switzerland with Sakari Oramo in April 2014. They perform a short piece by Swiss composer Dieter Ammann entitled “Boost”, then (in Zurich and St. Gallen) Sibelius Violin Concerto (with Leonidas Kavakos) and Mahler’s 4th Symphony; in Berne and Geneva Elgar’s Enigma Variations. Concert dates are: Zurich26th April 2014, St. Gallen 27th April 2014, Berne 28th April 2014 and Geneva 29th April 2014.
The Mariinsky Orchestra under Valery Gergiev come to Switzerland in May and perform, after another piece by Dieter Ammann entitled “Core”, Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto No. 2 with Denis Matsuev and Rimsky-Korsakov’s Sheherazade (in St. Gallen and Zurich) and in Lucerne and Geneva Rachmaninov’s 1st Piano Concerto and Tchaikovsky’s 4th Symphony. Concert dates are St. Gallen 18th May 2014, Lucerne 19th May 2014, Zurich 20th May 2014 and Geneva 21st May 2014.
Concerts in St. Gallen are given in the Tonhalle, St. Gallen; concerts in Zurich at the Tonhalle, Zurich; concerts in Berne at the Kulturcasino and in Geneva at Victoria Hall. Concerts in Lucerne are given at the KKL.
