Pittsburgh Opera announces 2021/2022 season
Pittsburgh Opera will be returning to larger venues in its upcoming season, beginning with Mozart’s The Magic Flute in November. During the height of the COVID pandemic, Pittsburgh Opera was able to combine live performances with limited, socially-distanced audiences and live-streams of each production. For the 2021/2022 season, the company will be returning to the Benedum Center and August Wilson African American Cultural Center, while also staging operas at its headquarters.
The new season maintains Pittsburgh Opera’s tradition of performing world-class productions that range from old favorites to exciting new works, including a world premiere and two operas never before seen in Pittsburgh.
- Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s The Magic Flute at the Benedum Center – November 2021
- David Herztberg’s The Rose Elf at Pittsburgh Opera Headquarters – January 2022
- Christopher Cerrone’s In a Grove (world premiere) at Pittsburgh Opera Headquarters – February/March 2022
- George Bizet’s Carmen at the Benedum Center – March/April 2022
- Jeanine Tesori’s Blue at the August Wilson African American Cultural Center – April/May 2022
There will be free pre-opera talks before each performance at the Benedum Center and August Wilson African American Cultural Center.
For the ongoing safety of its audience, artists, staff and related personnel, Pittsburgh Opera will continue adhering to the ever-shifting COVID protocols and recommendations from the CDC and State and County Health Departments, in consultation with a local epidemiologist. Pittsburgh Opera will update pittsburghopera.org/covid regularly with current protocols and policies.
