Oxford Opera Company’s The Marriage of Figaro at Oxford Playhouse on 9 and 19 October.
Oxford Playhouse is excited to announce a brand-new production of Mozart’s classic opera The Marriage of Figaro, presented by award-winning Oxford Opera Company.
Following the sell-out success of their 2025 production of Tosca, the company return to The Playhouse stage on Friday 9 and Saturday 10 October with an exciting new take on one of Mozart’s most popular operas. The production will be sung in English in a new translation by George Robarts, commissioned exclusively for the company.

Taking place over one chaotic day, this high-speed comedy of social and sexual politics is as relevant today as when Mozart first composed it.
Starring Hugo Herman-Wilson in the title role accompanied by Rachel Spiers as Susanna, Jack Holten as Count Almaviva, and Nikolett Mraz as the Countess, this production features some of the most exciting young singers in opera.
Hugo Herman-Wilson returns to Oxford Opera following his company debut in La traviata to make his role debut as the sharp-witted and lovable Figaro.
Rachel Spiers makes her company and role debut as Susanna, one of Mozart’s most treasured soprano roles.
Jack Holton joins Oxford Opera, singing Count Almaviva for the first time following recent seasons with both Opera Holland Park and Welsh National Opera. Completing the company is Hungarian soprano Nikolett Mraz who makes her company debut as the Countess.
Across all performances, The Marriage of Figaro will feature members of Oxford Opera’s Youth Company. The Oxford Opera Orchestra will be conducted by Director of Music John Warner. Together, they will bring Mozart’s masterpiece to life, in a production directed by Katie Blackwell following the huge success of her Tosca.
During the run of The Marriage of Figaro, Oxford Opera Company will present a special Family Matinee performance. This reduced version of the opera is the perfect introduction to the joys of the artform for young children and their families.
