The English National Opera (ENO) announces their 2022/23 Main Stage Season

  • The ENO’s 2022/23 Season features nine main stage productions at the London Coliseum: seven new productions and two revivals.
  • This varied programme of opera encompasses a range of bold and relevant stories, both new and well-known.
  • Offering new productions of rarely staged pieces, as well as broad-reaching work, we are creating a spectrum of operatic experiences for every member of our wide and diverse audience.
  • Christof Loy’s production of Puccini’s Tosca makes its UK debut at the ENO, with Sinéad Campbell-Wallace in the title role, conducted by Leo Hussain.
  • Jo Davies directs the first production of Gilbert & Sullivan’s The Yeomen of the Guard in the company’s history.
  • Jake Heggie’s opera of classic film It’s a Wonderful Life receives its UK premiere, conducted by Nicole Paiement, with Danielle de Niese making her ENO operatic debut.

The 75th Edinburgh International Festival in Summer 2022

Edinburgh International Festival celebrates its 75th anniversary, and 75 years of bringing world cultures together, with a programme defined by international partnerships and bold collaborations that span continents, generations and genres. Returning to Edinburgh’s theatres and concert halls at a scale not seen since 2019, 14 venues host 87 events and over 160 performances from over 2,300 artists – once again turning Edinburgh into a global celebration of world-class music, opera, dance and theatre. This year is also Fergus Linehan’s last as Festival Director before Nicola Benedetti takes up the role in October 2022.

Outdoor Opera afternoons from Cumbria Opera Group on 9 and 10 July 2022

Battlebarrow House Gardens (Appleby) plays host to a weekend of Shakespeare, Arthur Ransome, and opera highlights as the Cumbria Opera Group present two family-friendly afternoons of opera: Swallows and Armenians – Karen Babayan‘s reimagining of Ransome‘s ever-popular story – receives a musical twist, while a one-person performance of Ariel – Shakespeare‘s most musical character – comes to Appleby for the weekend. The afternoons will be completed with music by Puccini, Mozart, and Verdi.
