Entitled Voci celesti – Heavenly Voices, the 2019 Salzburg Whitsun Festival dedicates itself to the memory of the great castrato voices. ‘It is no coincidence that I can realize the idea now, when discussions about the abuse of the bodily integrity of artists have become so topical. In the name of art, thousands of boys were mutilated – a terrible tradition which was kept alive for centuries and only rarely questioned. Given this background, I wondered whether the great artistic accomplishments of this era should be celebrated at all by performing these pieces of music? To me, the answer is obvious: yes, absolutely. However, their art must be illuminated from other perspectives too, and the highly problematic context discussed,’ says Cecilia Bartoli, Artistic Director of the Salzburg Whitsun Festival.

Opera Holland Park’s 2018 Season Begins Soon

Opera Holland Park in 2018 

Investec Opera Holland Park’s 2018 casts will feature an exciting mix of longstanding Opera Holland Park (OHP) performers, house debuts from established artists, and rising stars, across four brand new productions and 31 performances (28 of which are public). These principals are joined by the Opera Holland Park Chorus and City of London Sinfonia, which celebrates a 15-year partnership with OHP in 2018.

2018-2019 Geneva Grand Theâtre Season

The next season of the Geneva Grand Théâtre has been announced.

This will be the last under the current director Tobias Richter, his replacement being Aviel Cahn who is currently at the Flemish Opera in Antwerp, Belgium.

This season will also be the last to use the temporary Théâtre des Nations. There were some delays and cost overruns in the refurbishing of the Grand Théâtre, but the venerable building will reopen in February with Wagners Der Ring des Nibelungen in Dieter Dorn’s production.
